Shaker card using Sea-Lestial Stamps
I love the Sea-Lestial stamp set by Maymay Made It because there is so much I can do with it. For this week’s Maymay Made It Instagram project, I decided to make a shaker card.
First, I used Distress watercolor cardstock and coloured the background with Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon using a blending sponge. I then splattered some water using the Mini Mister and dabbed the excess water using a paper towel.
Once the background was dry, I cut the centre using Hero Arts rectangle die and used the outer piece to create a frame for the card. In order to create a shaker card I need the frame to be lifted up, so I cut a blue foam sheet using the largest and third largest dies from the Hero arts rectangle die collection. To cut the Acetate, I used the second last die from the same die set.
I then started working on the focal subject, the seahorse. I stamped the seahorse on watercolour cardstock, fussy cut it with Tim Holtz mini snips and then coloured it using Zig clean color real brush markers. In order to give the seahorse a dimensional effect, I applied some Nuvo Glaze over it and let it dry.
I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set on Vellum using StazOn Black ink and then cut it to the length of the card.
Quick Tip: StazOn Ink is a quick-drying solvent-based ink and is used to stamp on non-porous surfaces such as vellum, acetate, glass, cloth and wood.
Then I began assembling the card. I used the frame as a stencil to stick the background to the card base. After that, I stuck the frame that I had cut using a foam sheet on the card base with a 5mm double-sided tape.
Quick Tip: Avoid using liquid glue while making a shaker card as the glue takes a while to dry.
I then stuck some sequins and beads randomly on the background so that they will always be on top even when the card is held vertically. After this, I applied some double-sided tape on top of the foam and before I could remove the backing from the tape, I put some sequins and beads in the well created by the foam border. Once I was done, I removed the backing paper and stuck the Acetate on it. Then, I stuck the vellum strip with the sentiment on top of the Acetate, followed by the frame. Finally, I stuck the seahorse on top of the acetate.
I have listed the products I used below. Thank you for visiting my blog.
