Altenew Educators’ “Background Bonanza” Video Hop + Giveaway
I am joining the Altenew Educators’ “Background Bonanza” Video Hop + Giveaway. If you would like to join the hop, please visit my Youtube Channel.
First, I stamped the magnolia from the Build-A-Garden: Blushing Magnolias Stamp Set on white cardstock using Permanent Black Ink.
Next, I coloured the image using the below Firewood and Sunshine Valley Garden Artist Alcohol Markers:
Flower – Berrylicious, Mauve, Pink Crystal, Pink Cloud, Icy Lemonade, Citrus Burst
Stem – Oak Moss, Swamp Green, Matcha Tea, Aloe Vera, Citrus Burst,
Bud – Berrylicious, Mauve, Pink Crystal, Citrus Burst
To add texture to the flower, I used the stippling technique.
I got the idea for this card from a lantern I spotted at a lantern exhibition during Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival. These exhibitions happen every year, and I am always amazed by their creativity and uniqueness. Lanterns in shapes like flowers, people, famous tourist spots and houses, to name a few, all lit up, add a special touch to these exhibitions. Many people enjoy visiting this beautiful lantern wonderland.
This photograph was my inspiration to colour the flower. When I was recording my video, I thought I did not have this image. However, I found it while writing this post.
Below are some pictures I clicked during the exhibition. If you love flowers and landscapes, I invite you to follow along my photography journey @clicksbyblossom.
After colouring the image, I outlined it with my black fine liner pen. Next, I used my scissors to fussy cut it. You can also use the coordinating die set to die cut the image. Then, I used a black brush pen to colour the edges of the flower.
Since there are many lanterns during this exhibition, I decided to create a Bokeh effect in the background. I coloured a white A2 cardstock using Oak Moss, Swamp Green, Matcha Tea and Aloe Vera Markers from the Firewood Garden Alcohol Markers and Pure Graphite and Industrial Diamond Markers from the Tropical Garden Artist Alcohol Markers Set.
To create the Bokeh background, I used the colourless blender on the coloured panel to remove ink and created circles of different sizes. Next, I coloured some circles in different colours using Pink Crystal (R602), Icy Lemonade (Y001), Citrus Burst (C004), Wisteria (R801), Eastern Sky (B003), Rouge (R301) and Dew Drops (C007) Artist Alcohol Markers. You can use just one colour family or use different colours depending on your preference.
Then, I stamped the sentiment from the Build-A-Garden: Blushing Magnolias Stamp Set using embossing ink, sprinkled pure white crisp embossing powder and heat set it with my heat gun.
Next, I die cut the frame from Jet Black cardstock using the Garden Trellis Cover Die Set, trimmed it randomly and stuck it on the card panel.
To add dimension, I stuck foam tape on the flower and I applied liquid glue on the branch and buds. Then, I stuck it on the card panel.
Lastly, I stuck the sentiment on the card front using foam tape.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I look forward to seeing you next week!
Until then, live creatively and spread the joy of handmade art. ❤️
