Smiles Across the Miles – Creative Challenge

We have a new Designer Creative Challenge at Crafting Desert Diva’s, the theme for which is Smiles Across the Miles. I decided to make a punny card using the Keep Swimming and Sandcastle Girl Digital Stamp Sets because we all are separated by the vast oceans and what better way to make someone smile than having these cute little happy fishes swim by to say hi.

For this card, I first printed the images, fuzzy cut them and coloured them using my Zig markers. I then added some details to the images using a White and a Black Gelly Roll pen.

For the background, I cut a piece of watercolour cardstock using the second largest die from the Fancy Frame Die set. I then tore a masking sheet and masked the lower part. After this, I coloured the panel using Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink on the top, followed by Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide in the middle and Blueprint sketch Distress Oxide at the bottom. I then dipped my Winsor and Newton brush in water, wiped off the excess water so that the brush was just damp and used it to make light strokes on the background for  creating an illusion of sunrays piercing through the water. I also added few drops of water in varying sizes all over the background and then dabbed of the excess water for a bubble-like appearance.

I then switched the masking sheet and coloured the sand using Tea Dye Distress Ink. For the sides, I used Vintage Photo Distress Oxide. Then, I added dots of different sizes using my brush and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.

Next, I stuck the images on the background and added a shadow below the castle.

Finally, I stuck the panel on a 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch cardstock and my card was done. I hope this does bring a smile on your face. Keep smiling always! 😊
