Simple Peacock Feather Tag
I had made this tag when India’s Republic day was around the corner. I wanted to make something that represents India, but time did not permit me to buy new stamps or dies. Lucky for me, I had the Peacock feather die by Joy Crafts (Peacock is the National bird of India), and I decided to make a simple yet interesting tag, that would display the simplicity, uniqueness and diversity of India. So, let’s get started.
I used a pre-cut tag from my local store. I started colouring the bottom of the tag using Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink. I then blended in Tumbled Glass Distress Ink using a round sponge ink blending tool to help get a smooth gradient effect. For the top portion of the tag, I used Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink.
Since India is also known for its various forms of Art, I felt the Life is art stamp by Stampendous was a perfect sentiment for my tag. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink to stamp the sentiment. I then splattered Yellow Gold from Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry colours on it using Winsor and Newton size 4 brush.
Quick tip: I added just enough water so that the paint had a perfect consistency, not too thick nor too thin. It is better to use a good quality brush for this process, as the quality of the brush is as important as the consistency of the paint.
We are done with the background, let’s move on to the main element of the tag – the peacock feather.
As I mentioned earlier, I die cut a watercolour cardstock using the Peacock Feather Die by Joy Crafts. I coloured the feather using Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet, and Fired Brick Distress Inks. I then used Yellow Gold from Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry colours to highlight the edges and a few areas of the feather to give it a royal look, like the bird itself! After the feather dried, I stuck it to the tag I made in the previous step, with Multi Medium Matte, and our simple Peacock tag is ready!
