Creative Challenge – Obsessed with Distress Oxides

This week is Creative Challenge week at Craftin Desert Diva’s and the theme is Obsessed with Distress Oxides. I love using them for my projects cause they are so easy to blend. For today’s card, I used Beach Day Girl and Sandcastle Girl Digital Stamp by Craftin Desert Diva’s.

I started by printing the images. Next, I fuzzy cut and coloured them using Zig markers.

I wanted to create a beach scene, so I cut off a masking sheet to mask the lower part of the paper. I also masked the sky using post its. After that, I coloured the sand using Tea Dye Distress Oxide Ink. To add texture to it, I used a dotting tool along with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink. Then I used Tea Dye Distress Ink with a Nuvo Brush and dabbed it on the paper. After that, I switched the mask and coloured the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink. To create the clouds, I used a brush and lifted the Distress Oxide Ink from the paper.

Next, I masked the sand and coloured the sea water with Cracked PistachioMermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide Ink. I then unmasked the sand and used Picket Fence Distress Ink with a brush and dabbed it over the edge where the sand and seawater met, to create foam.

I then stuck this panel to a white A2 card base. Finally, I stuck the images on the card panel.

Few tips:

  • Since Distress Oxides have pigment properties, you can stamp and colour using these inks not only on white cardstock but also darker ones.
  • If you get a harsh line while adding Distress oxides on paper, then continue blending it, and you will get a smooth finish.
  • Distress Oxide Inks can be used for embossing as well, so you do not need to own different colours of embossing powders. You can stamp with the Oxides and use clear embossing powder to get similar results.

I have listed the products used below. Thank you for visiting my Blog.
