Altenew July Workshop

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am very excited to share with you all that I had my first Altenew workshop on 23rd July. I am extremely grateful to Bridget for giving me the opportunity to teach during her Saturday workshop sessions. Also, a big thank you to everyone who attended my class, you all have no idea how happy I was to see so many fellow crafters and to craft with all of you amazing people. I had a ton of fun teaching and I also learned a few new tips and tricks, which I plan to try soon. I always tell my family and friends about how the crafting community is always so kind and encouraging, and I experienced this warmth and support during my workshop. My heart is so full of gratitude for getting a chance to meet and chat with you wonderful people. I cannot wait to craft with all of you again!

The focus of both my cards was the Enjoy Life Stamp & Die & Stencil Bundle. Below are the two cards that we created in class.

Card 1

For this card, I wanted to have a black and white look with a pop of colour. I started by stamping the floral image on a sheet of white cardstock using Permanent Black Ink. 

Note: You could use Obsidian Pigment Ink to stamp the image as well but ensure that the ink is dry before using the stencil to colour the image.

To colour the flowers and leaves, I used the below inks:
Flowers
Layer 1 – Citrus Burst, Orange Cream, Heart Beat, Vineyard Berry
Layer 2 – Autumn Blaze, Vineyard Berry
Leaves
Layer 1 – Minty Mint, Just Green, Hunter Green
Layer 2 – Hunter Green

After die cutting the image, I used a black gel pen to colour the tip of the stamens (anther). You could use a fine liner pen as well.

Next, I die cut the background panels from white and black cardstocks using the Mix and Match Frames Die Set. 

To add more texture behind the flowers, I cut a sheet of white cardstock to 3 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches, placed it on the Circle Quilt Cover Die and ran it through the die cutting machine.

Then I stamped the sentiment from the Carpe Diem Stamp Set on white cardstock using Obsidian Pigment Ink. Next, I inked the edges using Jet Black Ink. Lastly, I assembled the card panel and stuck it on an A2 card base.

Card 2

First, I cut a sheet of white cardstock to 2 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches using a trimmer. Then I prepped the card panel using embossing buddy to remove any static. Next, I stamped the floral image all around the cardstock using embossing ink, sprinkled gold embossing powder on it and heat set it. 

Tip: I find it quite helpful to stamp the background on a similar sized printer paper before stamping it on the final cardstock. 

I also embossed the lilies using gold embossing powder. After that, I inked all the images using the coordinating stencils and my ink blending tools. Below are the colours I used:
Background:
Flowers – Citrus Burst, Heart Beat
Leaves – Citrus Burst, Just Green
Focal image:
Flowers
Layer 1 – Orange Cream, Heart Beat, Jet Black
Layer 2 – Autumn Blaze, Heart Beat
Leaves
Layer 1 – Minty Mint, Just Green, Hunter Green
Layer 2 – Hunter Green

I then die cut the focal image using the coordinating die and used a white gel pen to colour the tip of the stamens (anther).

Next, I placed the Ornate Door Die on a sheet of Jet Black cardstock. Since I wanted to extend the size of the die cut panel, I placed the second cutting plate slightly below the edge of the die. I ran it through my die cutting machine a few times and once the piece was cut, I removed it from the die. Then I moved the die slightly higher, offset the top cutting plate on it and ran it through the machine.

After that, I used the detailed ink blending brush and dabbed embossing ink on the die cut panel. Then I sprinkled gold embossing powder on it and heat set it. Next, I embossed the sentiment from the Enjoy Life Stamp Set on Jet black cardstock strips. I then assembled the card and stuck it on a card panel.
