Demystifying Mixed Media
Hello there! Welcome to my blog! Today I would like to share a card I made for the Demystifying Mixed Media Course by Altenew Academy. I have wanted to try mixed media for a while but I have been so intimidated by it. This class has certainly helped me understand the fundamentals of Mixed Media. Tania Ahmed is a super talented artist and I am so glad I decided to take this class. I had so much fun making this card and I am definitely going to use the tips and tricks provided by Tania more frequently in my cards.
I started by placing the Leaf Bed Stencil on an A2 watercolour cardstock and stuck it in place with my washi tape. Next, I used embossing paste and applied it on the card panel using a palette knife. Then I removed the stencil and lightly sprinkled antique gold embossing powder and for the rest of the area, I sprinkled clear embossing powder because I wanted the area of the embossing paste to be resistant to watercolour. Next, I heat set the embossing powders with my heat gun and then I let the panel dry completely.
After that, I sprayed water on the entire panel and used Emerald, Mountain Mist and Limeade Watercolour Brush Markers to colour it.
While this panel was drying, I stamped the flowers from the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya Stamp Set. For the outline, I used Obsidian Pigment Ink and for the rest of the layers, I used the below Crisp Dye Inks.
Flowers:
1st Layer – Frosty Pink
2nd Layer – Heart Beat
3rd Layer – Grapevine
4th Layer – Maple Yellow
Leaves:
1st Layer – Bamboo
2nd Layer – Grass Field
3rd Layer – Hunter Green
Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Never Give Up Stamp Set on a strip of Jet Black cardstock using VersaMark ink. Then I sprinkled gold embossing powder on it, dusted off the excess and heat set it with my heat gun.
I then place the Linear Crossroads Die on Jet Black cardstock and ran it through my die cutting machine. Next, I stuck this die cut piece randomly on the card front and cut off the excess. Lastly, I assembled the card using my precision glue pen and stuck this panel on an A2 card base.
I have listed the products used below. Thank you so much for joining me today. Have a beautiful day.
